ZAMDUAR COLLEGE LIBRARY: A BEACON OF KNOWLEDGE IN RURAL BTR, ASSAM
Nestled in the scenic landscape Saraibil closed to the Raimona National Park, Raimona under the Police Station Saraibil, Gossaigaon sub division of Kokrajhar the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Assam, is a provincialized College offering under graduate programs in various disciplines. Zamduar College stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to the higher education. At the heart of its academic ecosystem lies the Zamduar College Library, a cornerstone institution fostering learning, literacy and intellectual curiosity among students and faculty alike. A HUMBLE BEGINNING WITH A VISION Since the inception of the college, the college library began as a modest room with a few shelves of textbooks and reference materials. With time, it has evolved into a vibrant hub, continually enriching its collection and expanding its services to cater to a diverse students and staffs of the college.
COLLECTION AND RESOURCES: The library houses a diverse and comprehensive collection designed to support the academic, research and recreational needs of its users. The library includes various collection like:
● Over 3000+ books including textbooks, reference materials, literary works and competitive exam guides
● A few collections of Journal and periodicals that span across subject like literature, humanities, etc.
● Digital section includes Institutional repositories, Question Papers, etc.
● A dedicated reading that provides a peaceful space for 20+ students within the library stack room is available. The library follows an open access system, allowing students to browse and select materials independently, thereby encouraging self-directed learning.

SERVICES OFFERED:
● Circulation Service: Students, teaching staff and non- teaching staff can borrow books from the library for a designated period.
● Reference Assistance: The library staff assist help in locating resources to the library patrons.

AUTOMATION: The library has initiated library barcode automation system using a standard library housekeeping management software. Including Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), Barcode based lending and digital record maintenance. OUTREACH AND
ACTIVITIES: To promote reading habits and library engagement, annually library conducts orientation program which includes:
● Introduction to Library Rules and Regulations.
● Tour of library facilities.
● Introduction to services (e.g. borrowing, digital access, study rooms).
● How to use the Open Public Access Catalogue and database.
● Membership drive and card registration events, etc.

ROLE IN ACADEMIC PURPOSE: Zamduar College Library plays a vital role in shaping the academic environment by acting as a support in learning, teaching and research. It provides selective and essential materials to the patrons. It also provides information and knowledge to supports students in projects, assignment and competitive preparation.
FUTURE ASPIRATIONS:
● Introduce RFID based smart library systems for seamless user experience.
● To introduce e-library section with access to e- resources from ONOS (One Nation One Subscription).
● Digitisation of Institutional repositories, etc.

CONCLUSION: The Zamduar College Library is more than the repository of books. It is a dynamic, evolving institution that empowers rural youths through knowledge, instilling academic curiosity and enabling access to opportunities far beyond its physical boundaries. With strategic growth and digital integration, it is well on its way on its to becoming a model rural academic library in the vicinity.
